All About FRC #1: What is FRC?

Aloha Wildcats! As we head into the pre-season many of you may be asking "What is FRC? What is FIRST? What does it matter to me?" All valid questions, and I'm going to answer them for you. FIRST is an non profit organization, offering robotics programs and events with the main goal of getting kids interesting the the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering. FRC (First Robotics Competition) is their high school program where each year they announce a robotics challenge, then teams engineer a robot to compete in the competition to hopefully win.

While it is very easy to get caught up on the robots and the competition, FIRST is more than that. It is a community of talented students, alumni, and mentors all with the goal of teaching the kids of today the skills they will use in the workplace. Their promotion of cooppertition and gracious professionalism is one of their main ways they promote the values of FIRST, which are Inclusion, Teamwork, Impact, Discovery, Innovation, and Fun!

To summarize, First is an organization not just focused on hosting a robotics competition, but focused on the promotion of the sciences and teaching kids key values that they can use in the workplace.
